Betty White
Betty Marion White Ludden (17. Januar 1922 – 31. Dezember 2021) war eine US-amerikanische Schauspielerin und Komikerin mit der längsten Fernsehkarriere aller Entertainer, die sich über 80 Jahre erstreckte. Sie gilt als Pionierin des Fernsehens und war eine der ersten Frauen, die sowohl vor als auch hinter der Kamera die Kontrolle behielt. Zudem ist sie die erste Frau, die eine Sitcom produzierte („Life with Elizabeth“), was ihr 1955 den Ehrentitel „Bürgermeisterin von Hollywood“ einbrachte.
White war bekannt für ihre preisgekrönten Rollen als Sue Ann Nivens in der „Mary Tyler Moore Show“ (1973–77) und Rose Nylund in „Golden Girls“ (1985–92) – beide Sitcoms wurden von der Writers Guild of America in die Liste der 101 besten Fernsehserien aller Zeiten aufgenommen – sowie als Elka Ostrovsky in „Hot in Cleveland“ (2010–15).
Als Stammgast zahlreicher amerikanischer Spielshows wie „Password“, „Match Game“, „Hollywood Squares“ und „The $25,000 Pyramid“ wurde White als „First Lady der Spielshows“ bezeichnet und war 1983 die erste Frau, die für die Moderation der Show „Just Men!“ einen Emmy Award als Beste Spielshow-Moderatorin erhielt. Bekannt war sie auch für ihre Auftritte in Serien wie „Boston Legal“, „Mama’s Family“ und „Saturday Night Live“.
White wurde mit acht Emmy Awards in verschiedenen Kategorien, drei American Comedy Awards, drei Screen Actors Guild Awards und einem Grammy Award ausgezeichnet. Sie hat einen Stern auf dem Hollywood Walk of Fame und ist Mitglied der Television Hall of Fame.
