Walter Cronkite
Walter Leland Cronkite Jr. (4. November 1916 – 17. Juli 2009) war ein US-amerikanischer Fernsehjournalist, der vor allem als Nachrichtensprecher der CBS Evening News bekannt wurde, die er 19 Jahre lang (1962–1981) moderierte. In der Blütezeit von CBS News in den 1960er- und 1970er-Jahren wurde er in einer Meinungsumfrage oft als „vertrauenswürdigster Mann Amerikas“ bezeichnet. Obwohl er von 1937 bis 1981 über zahlreiche Ereignisse berichtete, darunter Bombenangriffe im Zweiten Weltkrieg, die Nürnberger Prozesse, Kämpfe im Vietnamkrieg, den Tod von Präsident John F. Kennedy, den Tod des Bürgerrechtlers Martin Luther King Jr., Watergate und die Geiselkrise im Iran, war er vor allem für seine umfassende Fernsehberichterstattung über das US-amerikanische Raumfahrtprogramm bekannt, vom Mercury-Programm über die Mondlandungen bis hin zum Space Shuttle. Er war der einzige Nicht-NASA-Mitarbeiter, der mit dem Moon-Rock Award ausgezeichnet wurde. Cronkite ist bekannt für seinen Abschiedsspruch „Und so ist es nun mal“, gefolgt vom Datum der Ausstrahlung des Auftritts.
