Steve Martin
Steve Martin zählt zu den beliebtesten amerikanischen Komikern der letzten Jahrzehnte. Zu Beginn seiner Karriere feiert Martin große Erfolge als Stand Up – Comedian. Ende der 70er Jahre füllt er mit seinen Comedy-Programmen ganze Stadien.
Der für seine früh ergraute Haarpracht bekannte US-Amerikaner will jedoch viel lieber ins Filmgeschäft. Direkt mit seiner ersten großen Rolle in Reichtum ist keine Schande feiert Steve Martin seinen Durchbruch als Schauspieler. Mit Filmhits wie Roxanne, Eine Wahnsinnsfamilie, L.A. Story und Vater der Braut etabliert sich Martin als einer der erfolgreichsten Komiker der 80er Jahre und 90er Jahre.
Im Gegensatz zu den vielbeachteten früheren Komödien, können seine Filme im neuen Jahrtausend kaum noch bei den Kritikern punkten. Zwar sind sie meist kommerziell erfolgreich, jedoch handelt es sich vor allem um flache Familienfilme, denen der Tiefgang und Biss der älteren Werke fehlt. Steve Martin kann allerdings in anderen Feldern mehr Zuspruch ernten. So weiß er sich als Autor (Shopgirl) und Musiker (The Crow: New Songs for the 5-String Banjo) zu profilieren.
