Elvis Costello
Bei der Erwähnung von Ausnahmetalenten der Rocklyrik denkt man vielleicht nicht sofort an Elvis Costello, doch er verdient Beachtung. Über vier Jahrzehnte hinweg verfolgte der ehemalige Programmierer eine Karriere als Singer-Songwriter und stellte selbst Größen wie Bob Dylan in den Schatten. Geboren wurde er am 25. August 1954 als Declan MacManus in London. 1977 nahm er den Künstlernamen Elvis Costello an, wobei er seinen Vornamen von Elvis Presley und den Nachnamen seiner Mutter übernahm. Ebenfalls 1977 erschien Costellos Debütalbum „My Aim Is True“, das zwar Verbindungen zur New-Wave- und Punkbewegung aufwies, aber gleichzeitig musikalische Vielfalt zeigte. Im selben Jahr gründete Costello seine Band The Attractions. Die Gruppe veröffentlichte mehrere Alben, darunter „This Year's Model“, „Armed Forces“ und „Trust“. Das 1986 erschienene Album „Blood and Chocolate“ enthielt unvergessliche, anspruchsvolle Songs wie „Tokyo Storm Warning“ und „I Want You“.
