Biografie
William Russell
William Russell Enoch (19. November 1924 – 3. Juni 2024) war ein englischer Schauspieler. Er erlangte 1956 Bekanntheit durch seine Hauptrolle in der ITV-Fernsehserie „Die Abenteuer von Sir Lancelot“ (1956–1957). 1963 gehörte er zur Originalbesetzung der BBC-Serie „Doctor Who“ und verkörperte von der ersten Folge bis 1965 den Lehrer Ian Chesterton an der Seite von William Hartnell. Zu Russells Filmrollen zählen Auftritte in „Der Mann, den es nie gab“ (1956), „Gesprengte Ketten“ (1963) und „Superman“ (1978). Im Fernsehen war er unter anderem 1992 als Ted Sullivan in „Coronation Street“ zu sehen. Auch in den letzten Jahren blieb Russell „Doctor Who“ verbunden; 2022 kehrte er für einen Gastauftritt als Ian in der Folge „Die Macht des Doktors“ zurück – 57 Jahre nach dem letzten Fernsehauftritt der Figur.
